NetRead and Macmillan Renew Metadata Partnership

(New York, NY- July 12, 2011) -NetRead Software and Services, LLC, a solutions-provider to the book industry, announced a renewal of its metadata partnership with Macmillan USA, a leading publisher of books, textbooks, magazines and digital media. Per the terms of the agreement, NetRead handles Macmillan's title data conversion and distribution through its product, JacketCaster. JacketCaster is architected around the book industry XML-standard called ONIX, and since mid-2010 has allowed Macmillan to efficiently deliver of its eBook and Print title information to its many sales channels and partners.

"We're extremely pleased to extend and expand our agreement with a publisher of Macmillan's sophistication. They're a company with a strong belief in the importance of metadata, and to extend our agreement is a solid vote of confidence in our abilities and process," said Greg Aden, CEO of NetRead Software and Services, LLC.

NetRead has been an integral part of the publishing process since 2000 when they launched their ONIX-conversion application, JacketCaster, at Book Expo America. The internationally-recognized ONIX standard allows publishers to quickly list titles and affect changes with booksellers and industry players such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Ingram, Baker & Taylor, and Bowker. The standard is represented in the United States by the Book Industry Study Group (BISG), of which NetRead and Macmillan are members. NetRead also supports a myriad of other metadata and delivery formats including proprietary formats such as Apple's Transporter process.

"NetRead delivered. We have seen the benefits of working with a company sharply focused on metadata and the digital space, and we like the results," said Chris Kohn, CIO of Macmillan USA.

Macmillan's ONIX files are certified by the Book Industry Study Group. NetRead has supported BISG's process for its clients since inception of the certification. NetRead is also gold-certified for ONIX production by BookNet Canada.
